Tax Group Networks

Time and Date:                12:30 to 15:15pm on Thursday 18 May 2023

Venue:                               Chamber House, Venture B & C, 75 Harborne Rd, Birmingham 15 3DH

I hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to the May Bank Holidays and the Kings Coronation.

I am really pleased to announce that the next meeting of the Tax Group Networks (West Midlands) has been arranged for 12:30 on Thursday 18 May 2023. This time around, we will focus on HM Revenue & Customs, and we have an excellent line up of keynote speakers who will share their insights and expertise with the group. Joining us for this event will be Jesminara Rahman (Tax Resolute London), Salman Anwar (BDO Birmingham) and Sartaj Gill (Housman Consulting Birmingham). Jesminara will cover the changing landscape on handling Research & Development claims in HMRC. Salman and Sartaj will cover an overview of HMRC systems, legal powers and enquiry tactics. It promises to be a great learning experience. I am confident that attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the subject matter and knowledge of ‘what to do’ if and when HMRC come ‘knocking on the door’.

There are two pieces of good news:

  • The Asian Business Chamber of Commerce (part of Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce) has agreed that our group can use room and facilities at Chamber House, Birmingham for our meeting. This is a fantastic gesture of support. The room will easily hold around 40 – 50 people. It means we are less restricted on numbers and can expand the networking group – remember, it is open to all professionals in tax, accountancy, finance and business owners, in fact, anyone with an interest in tax!
  • We will be joined by colleagues from the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce which covers mainly Nottingham, Derby and Leicester. This will allow business connections and networking across the Midlands Region. I am sure this will bring a lot of expertise and positive contributions to future events.

Due to the growing size of our group, please respond to the invite so that we can manage numbers. We cannot guarantee spaces will be available, please ensure that you confirm your attendance as soon as possible to secure your spot. Food (sandwiches and samosas) and refreshments will be served as usual at the start of the networking session. If you have any dietary requirements please let me know and we will do our best to accommodate.

Once again, I would like to thank you for supporting the West Midlands Tax Group networking events and I hope to see you 18 May 2023.

Yours Sincerely

Sartaj Gill
